Need help figuring out how to download the Arlo app

I’m trying to set up my Arlo security cameras but I’m stuck on the app download part. I’m not sure which Arlo app version I actually need or where to safely download it for my device. Can someone explain the correct Arlo app download steps and point me to the right place so I don’t install the wrong thing?

Short version, you only need one app, and where you get it depends on your phone or tablet.

  1. First check your system
    • iPhone or iPad
    • Android phone or tablet
    • Computer only

  2. For iPhone or iPad
    • Open the App Store
    • Search for: Arlo Secure
    • The correct app publisher is “Arlo Technologies Inc.”
    • Icon is a simple “arlo” logo on white
    • Tap Get, then open it and create or log in to your Arlo account

Do not use any app called “Arlo Legacy” or anything from a random company. Those are old or not official.

  3. For Android
    • Open Google Play Store
    • Search: Arlo Secure
    • Check publisher is “Arlo Technologies Inc.”
    • Install, open, sign in or create account

Avoid APK sites from the web. Those are risky and often outdated. Stick to Play Store only.

  4. For computer setup
    • You still need the phone app for first setup
    • After setup you access from a browser:
    https://my.arlo.com
    • Use the same Arlo account you made in the app

  5. How to know you picked the right version
    • App name is “Arlo Secure”
    • Developer is “Arlo Technologies Inc.”
    • Recent reviews and recent update date in the store
    • Mentions support for cameras like Pro, Essential, Ultra, etc

  6. If your camera manual says something different
Some old manuals still mention an older “Arlo” app name. Ignore that, use Arlo Secure instead. Arlo moved everything into the Arlo Secure app.

  7. Quick setup steps once app is installed
    • Open app
    • Create account or log in
    • Tap “Add new device”
    • Pick your camera model
    • Follow on‑screen steps, usually:
    – Plug camera or base station in
    – Wait for LED pattern the app describes
    – Press sync or pair button
    – Scan QR code on your phone if it asks

If you say what phone you use and which Arlo camera model you have, people here can walk you through button by button.

Couple of extra angles to add on top of what @sonhadordobosque said, since Arlo’s naming has confused a lot of people.

  1. Forget the “old” Arlo apps
If you see any of these in your store, just ignore them, even if your manual says otherwise:
  • “Arlo” without “Secure”
  • “Arlo Legacy”
  • Anything with weird extra words in the name or a different company name

Arlo basically migrated everything to Arlo Secure, and they’ve been quietly letting the old stuff rot.

  1. How to double‑check you’re not grabbing a fake app
Before you ever hit Install, check these details in the App Store / Play Store page:
  • Developer: must be Arlo Technologies Inc.
  • Download count: on Android it should be in the millions, not a few thousand
  • Last updated: should be recent (within the last couple months, not “Updated in 2021”)
  • Permissions: things like camera, location, notifications make sense. If you see super sketchy stuff and it’s not from Arlo Technologies, back out.
  1. If your phone is old / low on storage
This is where people get stuck:
  • If the store says your device is “not compatible,” your Android or iOS version might be too old. In that case:
    • Try another newer phone or tablet in the house, install Arlo Secure there, do the setup, then just use the browser on your older device later.
  • If you’re out of storage, free up some space first. The app is not huge, but older phones with 16 GB choke easily.
  1. For folks who really want to use a computer
I slightly disagree with the idea that you “must” use the phone app forever.
  • Yes, first setup is way easier in the app.
  • But once the cameras are added, you can pretty comfortably live in the browser at:
  • You just won’t get phone push notifications there, obviously.
  1. How to sanity‑check you did it right
After installing Arlo Secure and logging in:
  • You should see a big prompt like “Add new device” or “Add new camera.”
  • If the app looks super outdated, ugly, or mentions “Legacy,” you’re in the wrong place.
  • If you’re asked to log in with anything other than an Arlo account (like some weird third‑party login), close it. That’s likely not the right app.

If you reply with:

  • What phone/tablet you’re using (Android/iPhone + approximate age)
  • Exactly what your camera model says on the sticker/box (e.g. Essential, Pro 4, Ultra 2, etc.)
folks here can tell you exactly what you should be seeing on screen and whether your device is supported, step by step.
